  • What can I expect during session?
The very first session is called the initial intake. This session usually lasts around 50 minutes. We will go over any questions you may have and dive into what brings you to therapy. Subsequent sessions are also around 45-50 minutes. In these sessions we’ll start to develop and implement a treatment plan that aligns with your goals. Look for these sessions to be laid back, conversational, and interactive.
  • What do I talk about?
Some clients know exactly what they want to talk about while others need a little more guidance. Don’t worry. This is completely normal. I will always defer to you in regard to what we discuss in session but if you’re drawing a blank, we’ll move into skill based work or move on to another topic.
  • How will I know if you’re the right fit for me?
The fit between therapist and client is one of the most important parts of therapy. That said, I offer free 15 minute virtual consultations so you can get an opportunity to ask questions and get to know me a little before diving into the process. If we’re a fit, great! If not, no worries. I can help point you in the right direction. If you’re interested in setting up a meet & greet, please email dillon@derbycitycounseling.com.
  • How often will we meet?
I recommend meeting once a week for 4 weeks to start and then move to bi-weekly, and then eventually to monthly. This allows us to build rapport and momentum. But ultimately, how often we meet is entirely up to you.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Short answer: No, I do not. Long answer: I choose to be out of network with insurance companies in order to avoid their “red tape” and involvement in your treatment. I want to provide 100% confidential treatment with competitive pricing options. I also want you to feel empowered to choose your provider, treatment length and approach, and not have insurance companies interfere with your unique goals and needs. This means you pay upfront at the time of service and then you can submit for reimbursement. Call your insurance company to determine if they have out-of-network benefits. If they do, I can provide a Super Bill for you to submit (we can talk more in detail if this is of interest to you).
  • What are your rates?
    - Initial Intake (first session): $140 - Subsequent Sessions: $120 - Couples Counseling: $150 - I also offer reduced rates depending on circumstances. Please email dillon@derbycitycounseling.com to see if you qualify.
  • How long will I have to be in therapy?
The length of therapy can vary from client to client. Some clients are able to see positive change in three months while others take a little longer. It also depends on the issue(s) at hand. As we start to see progress we can change the frequency of sessions to meet your current needs.
  • What do you specialize in?
I typically see clients ages 15+ struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, burnout, and LGBT related issues.
  • Do you offer in-person sessions?
Yes! I offer both in-person and virtual sessions. Most clients choose to do a hybrid of both.
  • What states are you licensed in?
I am licensed in both KY and NC. This means I can meet with you as long as you’re a resident of either state. Note: I meet with NC clients virtually.
  • Will I have to pay a late cancellation fee if I test positive for COVID-19?
I understand these are unprecedented times and we cannot control when we get sick. In order to avoid the cancellation fee, all you need to do is provide documentation of your positive test and the fee will be waived.
